[pls wait for the upgrade figures...]

Next is the Congo (186) and then Mozambique (185), Chad (184), Burkina Faso (183) and Mali (182), completing the last 6 poorest.

For Very High Dev 5:  Norway (index 1), Australia (2), USA (3), Netherlands (4), Germany (5) and New Zealand (6). The complete and updated Human Development Report and Index is pasted below or visit the UNDP site.

UNDP HDI Report 2013

HDI or HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX measures a country’s achievements in terms of life expectancy, educational attainment and adjusted real income. After Niger, the Congo is now second poorest of the poor countries. As it is, South Sudan is not yet on the list like back a few years ago, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia & Liberia were not in the list for some reasons. Most likely due to the war and violence. Notice that Yemen is still the poorest country in the Middle East.

In Asia, Afghanistan [175] ranked last, followed by Nepal [157], Pakistan [146] and Bangladesh [146]. Myanmar (Southeast Asia). With Niger, most of the sub-saharan African countries are trailing behind as still most needy.  http://hdr.undp.org

Sierra Leone is poorest, ranked last in the 174-country Human Development Index that takes into account income, education, life expectancy, and health care. The bottom 24 countries are all in sub-Saharan Africa. Of the Middle Eastern countries, Yemen was bottom at 148th. And ranked at 146th, Bangladesh is poorest in Asia.

The Associated Press said dragged down by the AIDS epidemic and wars, Africa remained in its monopoly on the bottom places in a quality-of-life rating released on June 29th by the United Nations.

The Index below is from lowest to highest development. This means that the poorest country today is Sierra Leone (West Africa) and richest is Canada.
