After Niger, Sierra Leone is now second poorest of the poor countries. As it is, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia & Liberia are not in the list. Sierra Leone is poorest, ranked last in the 174-country Human Development Index that takes into account income, education, life expectancy, and health care. The bottom 24 countries are all in sub-Saharan Africa. Of the Middle Eastern countries, Yemen was bottom at 148th. And ranked at 146th, Bangladesh is poorest in Asia.
The Associated Press said dragged down by the AIDS epidemic and wars, Africa remained in its monopoly on the bottom places in a quality-of-life rating released on June 29th by the United Nations.
The Index below is from lowest to highest development. This means that the poorest country today is Sierra Leone (West Africa) and richest is Canada.
